Have you ever wondered what this life is all about? Of course we all have.
The possibility that everything that happens to us is but a mere illusion created by ‘ourselves’ meaning our ego, to distract us from that which was always meant to be. I am not a religious person at all, believing rather that I am spiritual by nature, I abhor the idea of mass religion, seeing it as a form of crowd control used to keep the masses in a state of perpetual inertia, therefore when I use the term spiritual I refer to the fact that I do believe in a ‘higher power’, given to understand that I as a mere human being have never been able to label that which I believe exists or even in what form it may exist. But enough of my waffling, the point I am trying to make is that this morning I sat and wondered what this life I live is all about and decided that although it’s rather simplistic and just a thought, it was one I wanted to share. We came into ‘being’ I suppose or were ‘created’ from or by ‘source’ / the abovementioned ‘higher power’. We started out as individual flames, always connected through an invisible cord to the source but as we grew, lived and learnt, we lost that memory of our divine connection. Instead we began to rage against the dying of the light, fighting our way to survive on this planet, wanting/desiring more, finding ourselves stuck in ruts of self-imposed restrictions created by ourselves when the easiest thing to do (well it sounds easier than it is really)..is to remember where we came from, who we are, for surely we are all ‘source’, divine almost godlike in our origin, we are all tiny particles of the ‘higher power’ created in its image? If we just let go and remember who and what we are a part of, but not apart from, if we release those cords and stop fighting the inevitable and realise that in our search for, or our desperation to become individualised beings we have forgotten that we are all tiny miniscule copies of ‘the source’?
If it were only that easy to let go, truly release oneself from these self-imposed bonds that we have all created, that restrict our very being and trust that everything will turn out the way it is supposed to because ‘source’ / ‘the higher power’ that is, knows exactly what, where, when and how our lives are supposed to turn out, in the end we are all supposed to return to ‘source’.
It is in this frame of mind that the movie – the matrix speaks to me. I see millions of humans caught asleep – connected to source yet refusing to wake up and see that it is through our own mental states that our lives are made. Thoughts create reality, or am I one of those humans who live a deluded life?
As I re-read this piece, the last thoughts of Gregory D. Roberts come to mind – ‘you can change your life completely with a single thought or a single act of love.’
